Junior Blackhawk Baseball Mission Statement

The Junior Blackhawk Baseball Organization is the official traveling baseball program in Fort Atkinson. The JBB is a non-profit organization made up of action – oriented coaches, instructors, parents, and community dedicated to teaching the game of baseball for any player that is looking to play baseball at the high school level and beyond. Through quality coaching, dedication, and teamwork, we support the enhancement of the successful student athletes promoting academic and athletic excellence, good sportsmanship, and character building relationships.

Former MLB Player provides positive comments about JBB team and Organization

For many people who know baseball in Wisconsin, they are familiar with the name Bob Wickman. Bob Wickman was a former UW Whitewater pitcher who went on to play baseball in the MLB for the New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians, Milwaukee Brewers, and the Arizona Diamondbacks. Mr. Wickman was also the all-time saves leader for the Cleveland Indians.

Mr. Wickman now enjoys time watching his kids play sports, and his son who plays baseball for the Wisconsin Rivercats Select organization, of which several Junior Blackhawk baseball players also participate on various Rivercat age group teams.
During a final game in the 2012 season the U14 Junior Blackhawks faced the U14 Rivercats in a semifinal game to get to the Championship game. The JBB U14 team held the Rivercats scoreless through 4 innings, and had an opportunity to win the game with bases loaded in the bottom of the 7th and the 3 & 4 hitters at bat and on deck. The JBB U14 team lost 7-5.

After the game Mr. Wickman stated to a parent / assistant coach on the JBB team “I am impressed that this is a community based team and that JBB is a community based program, and not a select team. This was a quality team and organization, and it will be exciting to watch them continue as they are going to be tough to beat.”

For our organization to have a person with the type of credentials as Mr. Wickman provide such positive comments for our players is very humbling, and something this organization should be very proud of.

The Rivercat team the following week won the Silver Division at the CABA World Series. Matt Romens from the JBB U14 team was a member of that Rivercat team.

Thank you Mr. Wickman for your encouragement about JBB baseball

Letter from the President

Dear JBB Parents, Players & Fans;

While many of you are still playing football, and now preparing for the basketball season, your JBB coaches and Board of Directors have been hard at work preparing for the 2013 season.

First of all we would like to say Thank You to each and every one of you for your support on another very successful 2012 season.

The JBB Organization is set up in a very strategic manner to ensure there is growth in the organization, leadership for now and into the future, and so we are represented at every age level. For this to happen, we set the organization up as a 501©3 Non-profit organization and made every head coach at each age level a board member. From that board we then appointed Executive Chair members to see the day to day operations. It has been very successful and mimics the same type organizational structure that the FAST Swim team has, which has become the most successful sports program in Fort Atkinson history. Our goal at JBB is to join them in that category.

At our September Board meeting, our chair positions terms were up, and it meant it was time to rotate in more people from our current board. For the past three years (since inception) Jim Pease (past President) has poured his heart and soul into building a quality baseball program, along with Gary Held (secretary) Eric Wixom (Vice President), and Jeff Jensen (treasurer). What an incredible job they performed. They were not always met with open arms, and had many community people and leaders all attempt to stop the growth of baseball in Fort Atkinson, but they worked through it, and gave Fort Atkinson a quality traveling baseball program that has been recognized by the State of Wisconsin Youth Baseball Organization as a leader in youth baseball. Way to go Jim, Eric, Gary, Jeff, and the JBB coaches / Board members.

Vince Kent (U14) has assumed the role of President for JBB. Eric Wixom (U13) is Vice President, Chad Murphy (U9 Coach) Secretary, and Jeff Jensen (U13) is treasurer. We all pledge to continue to grow the JBB organization as well as Jim and his team did. Jim Pease will continue to be a part of the board, a head coach, camp director, and assist with the development of the first Coaches and parents Baseball training guide. Jim and Gary will also take & coach the Very First team to Cooperstown to play baseball at Dream Park in 2013. When you see Jim and the others please give them a Big Thank You!

The teams for the 2013 season have been selected after a very good showing at tryouts. The coaches are currently making contact with those team members. I know I can speak for the entire board, we wish we could keep every kid who tries out, but with limited coaches, and field time, it is just not possible.

When the coaches call to inform the parents, they will be invited to attend a mandatory Parent meeting to discuss the JBB organization, parent’s handbook, Code of Conduct, introduction to the coaches, and a team parent selection. Vince Kent will be giving this presentation at the start of the meeting. The meetings will only last 1 hour. I promise.

As we move forward building our camps and programs for 2013 stay tuned by visiting our website at www.juniorblackhawkbaseball.com. Please feel free to email me with any questions or suggestions that you might have. vince@abendrothwater.com
